The GECA team was delighted to be part of the Sydney Autumn Home Show’s Eco Town, which featured organisations and companies showcasing innovative products and solutions to minimise our impact on the environment.

Eco Town was a resounding success! With, exhibitors all supporting the cause and educating Sydney visitors on sustainable products from waste recycling and bee rescue to materials and renewable energy.

Additionally, ‘Wombat’, the Eco Town Ambassador, caught visitors’ attention by spreading his knowledge and views on living while causing less harm to our planet with activities to reconnect kids with nature and showing visitors how to grow vegetables at home.

The event was versatile and informative, touching a diverse series of topics and products that matter to consumers. We found it very encouraging to see that sustainability is becoming a factor that families and individuals consider when renovating their homes.

Each of us is an important agent to drive change and embrace practices that are less harmful to our planet. Sharing ideas and views on consuming and producing sustainably is critical to make a difference in climate change mitigation.

Across the event, we were kept busy showing the repurposed shipping container to curious visitors and, most importantly, explaining details of our robust standards. Participating in Eco Town allowed us to better explain how the GECA certification process works and the different environmental, human health, fit for purpose and social aspects addressed by the GECA ecolabel.

Interestingly, some visitors were excited to discover that there were many products they used in their daily life that were GECA certified! Ranging from cleaning products, furniture, building materials, paint, flooring products and furniture. You can find GECA certified products through our website product search and select the ‘Availability’ filter to search for products available for consumers.

When speaking to building professionals such as architects, designers and builders, it was great to see that they were actively looking for materials that have a lower impact on the environment. There is a growing interest in specifying sustainable materials for homes, from GECA certified carpets, cement, adhesives, sealants, paints, panel boards to recycled products.

Similarly, watching kids asking about solar energy and better choices for the planet gives us hope that the message has been spread to younger generations, who will become the future leaders of climate change and other environmental action.

Visitors left the GECA pod with greater awareness of our services and the power of our ecolabel – ready to find GECA products. We cannot wait for our next face to face event to continue raising community awareness towards a more sustainable world!

Due to incredible feedback Eco Town is coming to The Melbourne Home Show on the 13 to 15 August! If you are interested in being a part of this feature to educate Melbourne visitors about the sustainability credentials of your GECA certified products or services, please email homeshows@eea.net.au for further information.
