It’s never been a better time to be in the business of sustainability, according to a report released in October last year by Future Business Council.
The report shows that “sustainability should not be seen as a cost, but a business opportunity”, and that there is an ever-growing demand for sustainable goods and services – especially those with a trusted certification scheme behind them. Changing consumer preferences, government regulation and environmental necessity were identified as the three main drivers being the global green business boom.
Consumers, in particular, seek trustworthy sustainable products, with certification schemes providing the edge and credibility over competing products. Trusted schemes also prompt more demand for better, cleaner products that save consumers money – such as energy efficient appliances – as well as driving the market for those who wish to purchase more sustainable products even at a higher price point.
