GECA certified products are now available on a free online platform that will save architects and other building professionals thousands of hours searching the right products for their projects. The Building Product Information (BPI) Rating provides information on the compliance, performance, resilience and sustainability of building products and the companies producing them.

With over a decade of experience working with building sector professionals, Jonas Bengtsson, CEO of Australian sustainability advisory firm Edge Environment (Edge), conceived of BPI as a place to find information about building materials and compare alternatives.

Edge partnered with software experts Comply Flow to develop the platform. With support from the Insurance Council of Australia and a Government grant from AusIndustry, the partners undertook extensive user consultation to understand stakeholder’s needs and ensure BPI’s useability.

This new online platform is primarily targeted at architects, designers, engineers, sustainability professionals and developers, allowing them to save time finding and comparing products. BPI Rating is free to use and for suppliers to register and add products and information.

Recently, BPI Rating has collaborated with GECA to expand its database to include all of our ecolabelled building and interior type products. The online platform makes it easy and fast to find and compare building product information on the Compliance, Resilience, Environmental and Social credentials of building products, systems and materials.

Jacqui Wagar, Sustainability Leader at GECA licensee Stylecraft, was one of the first users to trial the tool. “A single resource showcasing products with a focus on social and environmental impacts – I’ve been looking for something like this for ages”, said Wagar.

New features under development include comprehensive product maintenance recommendations developed with the insurance industry and product sustainability scoring for the soon to be launched new Green Star building rating tool.
