Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) is in the process of developing a new standard for cement and concrete products.
The standard is being developed to address a number of industry needs, including to allow better access for cement and concrete products towards scoring points and credits under green building and infrastructure ratings tools, such as Green Star and ISCA. It also provides assurance to green procurers and specifiers seeking environmentally-preferable concrete products, while giving manufacturers of those products a marketing edge to better communicate their top performance.
The standard is currently going through a second round of consultations with a Technical Advisory Group, a group of industry professionals who provide input and feedback into the development of the standard. This group comprises a wide range of stakeholders such as industry associations, innovative companies, the Green Building Council of Australia, the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia, academic institutions, government officials and other experts.
Once these consultations are finished, a draft of the standard will be released for public comment and further feedback. A final version of the standard is expected to be released mid-year 2016.
