    11 Dec 2014 12:48 pm

Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) has welcomed two new senior leaders to help it better fulfil it’s mission to drive a substantial increase in the sustainability of consumption.

Anna Scott has been appointed as Director of Innovation and Ben Waters as Director of Strategy. Anna and Ben will work with the GECA team to explore innovative ways to transform business and consumer demand for sustainable products and services.

“I am delighted that executives with such strong sustainability track records have chosen to join GECA. Anna and Ben will accelerate GECA’s ability to boost sustainable production and consumption in Australia.” said GECA chair Gordon Renouf.

Anna Scott is a sustainability specialist with a background in environmental and social impact, sustainability consulting and designing sustainability impact value propositions across the corporate, government and not-for-profit sectors over the last 20 years. She holds a portfolio of roles to help make positive social and environmental impact a reality, including with Orbis Environmental, the Social Impact Measurement Network Australia, the Clean Cut Fashion Council and advises a number of social entrepreneurs to maximise their social impact.

“I’m thrilled to be working with GECA to explore additional opportunities for GECA in business, government and consumer markets,” said Anna. “With increasing interest across all sectors in how we can improve societal wellbeing and reduce our demand for natural resources, I look forward to exploring with stakeholders how GECA can maximise its sustainability impact and create more value for purchasers, sellers and society.”

Ben Waters holds a portfolio of sustainability and cleantech roles and projects, working with Sungevity Australia, Presync, Futureye, the New Economy Business Leaders Forum, Sustainable Business Australia, and providing strategic advice to a number of local startup cleantech firms. He previously spent 17 years with GE, holding a range of positions within the company. Most recently, Ben led GE’s ecomagination initiative – GE’s sustainable business strategy which includes cleantech R&D, investment, and footprint reduction – for Australia and New Zealand.

“I’m excited to be working with GECA as we explore how to maximise the organisation’s impact,” said Ben. “GECA is a respected brand which has long set the standard for good environmental product performance in Australia.”

“Sustainable consumption is a key part of what’s needed as we transition into a new, more productive, cleaner and fairer economy. I look forward to consulting with a broad range of people as we form our views on how GECA can best help businesses innovate to do more with less while improving quality of life for their customers.”

Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) runs Australia’s only independent, not-for-profit, multi-sector ecolabelling program and is the only Australian member of the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN). It develops standards against which products can be independently audited by GECA’s JAS-ANZ accredited conformity assessment bodies (CABs). Its standards are developed following ISO 14024 principles for global best practice in ecolabelling. For more information go to geca.org.au.
