On the 24 May our Standards and Technical Manager, Judith Schinabeck, attended the Green Building Council of Australia’s (GBCA) event – Shaping the Future State – as part of Green Building Day.

During this event, GBCA launched their Building with Nature paper to seek feedback on the proposed approach that Green Star should take to improve biodiversity and ecological outcomes in the built environment.

“I appreciate that the GBCA is tackling the topic of biodiversity in such a profound way. Sustainability is about creating the conditions not only for humans to thrive but also for animals and plants,” says Schinabeck.

“With this discussion paper, the GBCA is opening up to a holistic view of a sustainable built environment. In light of a massively growing Sydney, it will be an on-going challenge to provide enough space for nature. So this move is much needed.”
