GECA is proud to be a supporting partner of the Banksia Foundation’s 2020 Banksia Sustainability Awards, the major sustainability awards in Australia.
“Not even the biggest disruption to the global economy in 100 years can undo the most prestigious and longest-running sustainability awards in Australia,” says Banksia Foundation CEO Graz van Egmond.
The closing date for nominations has been extended to Monday 30 November to give Australian businesses and individuals that are adjusting to the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic more time to submit their entry.
“We’ve opened entries until the end of the year because we believe that now it is more important than ever to celebrate those who are striving to make change, and we want to make it as achievable as possible to enter,” says Ms van Egmond.
The Banksia Awards is a celebration of the most innovative, effective and outstanding people contributing to improving Australia’s sustainability. The Awards recognise individuals, communities, businesses and government for their innovation and excellence in environmental and social stewardship.
“Vital work in sustainable development across Australia has not stopped in the face of COVID-19, and neither will we,” says Ms van Egmond.
“We’re all doing our bit to keep each other safe, and for many of us, that means staying home whenever we can. This has been extremely challenging for many Australian businesses, but it also presents a unique opportunity for reflection and expression.”
Ms van Egmond hopes that the deadline extension might also encourage entries from people and organisations who would not otherwise have considered nominating for the prestigious awards.
“Many people are using this time to look internally and ask the question – when life returns back to its ‘norm’, what am I going to have done, or what am I going to do, to have a positive impact on the world around me?”
The 2020 Banksia Sustainability Awards ceremony will take place in early 2021.
The awards are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a set of global goals to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and protect the planet.
Entries for the 2020 Awards will close on November 30 2020 at 5pm. More information about the entry process can be found here. We encourage all GECA licensees to showcase their leadership and innovation by entering the awards.
