The Ngurra is a manoeuvrable sofa that can provide banquette or booth seating. The lightweight birch laminate base is mounted on lockable castors so it can be wheeled into position.
Several units can be lined against a wall for banquette seating, which can utilise a dead zone – such as the space underneath a bank of windows – without the need for built-in seating.
Alternatively, two units can be paired with the Ngurra (Camp) Booth Table for booth seating. This is a comfy and cosy setup for individual or group work in libraries and common rooms.
Even as a standalone unit, the Ngurra will not go astray as a compact and comfortable 2-seater sofa that students or teachers can easily move to suit their needs.
The Ngurra is available in four colours that are inspired by the Australian landscape: Bamal (Earth), Burran (Stingybark), Daramu (Tree), Badu (Water). The upholstery is two-tone – darker on the seat and lighter on the back. This is intended to mimic nature and is part of the biophilic design thinking that underpins the Learn by Koskela range. Studies have shown the adoption of biophilic design has a positive effect on student engagement and wellbeing.
The fabric itself is an Australian-made 100 percent eco-wool with added stain protection so the sofa will maintain good condition over time.
Ngurra translates to
camp, and the word originates from the Dharug Aboriginal language in Sydney.
