Update: The BIM v2.0-2018 Building Insulation Materials standard has now superseded GECA 33-2007 Thermal Building Insulation Materials.
High quality thermal insulation plays a vital role in the energy efficiency of a building. Reducing heating and cooling requirements means reduced greenhouse gas emissions, as well as improving indoor comfort levels, keeping surfaces cool in summer but warm during winter. However, the manufacture of insulation products can have negative environmental impacts depending on the processes involved.
Products covered by the standard include bulk insulation materials used in building applications, namely resistive-type boards, blankets, batts and loose-fill or spray-on thermal insulation.
On 15 March 2021, in collaboration with Edge Environment and the Global Product Stewardship Council, GECA was awarded a grant by the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment to tackle the issue of commercial office furniture going to landfill. The group will use the funding to design a product stewardship scheme that will help reduce the estimated 30,000 tonnes of furniture – much of it in perfectly good condition – that ends up in Australia’s waste stream each year.Read More See all news
