At GECA, collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. We know that when we work together with like-minded organisations, we can drive greater impact in the sustainability space. That’s why we were thrilled to recently welcome representatives from Eco Choice Aotearoa and TCO Certified for two days of collaborative discussions around the future of lifecycle ecolabelling.
As fellow Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN) members, both organisations share our commitment to transparency, strong governance, and holistic sustainability standards. Our conversations—spanning both team-to-team and board-to-board engagements—highlighted the common challenges we face and exciting opportunities to grow the impact of our ecolabels.
Shared Challenges, Shared Opportunities
Throughout our discussions, it became clear that ecolabels worldwide are navigating similar landscapes. The need for robust, third-party certification has never been greater as businesses, governments, and individuals demand credible sustainability claims in response to increasing scrutiny on greenwashing.
We explored strategies for expanding the reach and influence of lifecycle ecolabels, leveraging our shared knowledge to ensure that our certification schemes continue to set high standards for environmental and social responsibility. We also explored how we could extend our impact by leveraging each other’s ecolabels to give more product categories access to leading certification processes.
Why Collaboration Matters
One of our biggest takeaways from these conversations was a reaffirmation of something we already strongly believe: collaboration is key in the sustainability space. By aligning our messaging and working together across regions, we can provide a more consistent and credible voice in the fight against greenwashing and misleading sustainability claims.
We’re excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to continuing to work closely with Eco Choice Aotearoa, TCO Certified, and other GEN members to strengthen the integrity and impact of ecolabels worldwide. For example, GECA and Eco Choice Aotearoa have a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which streamlines the certification process for companies seeking to demonstrate sustainability leadership with market-leading recognition in Australia and New Zealand.
At GECA, we remain committed to helping businesses, individuals, and procurement professionals make better choices for people and planet. These discussions have reinforced our determination to ensure that lifecycle ecolabels remain a trusted and effective tool for sustainable decision-making.
Stay tuned as we continue to build on these global partnerships and drive positive change in the certification space!
