We all know sustainability matters. However, on a major infrastructure project, it can quickly become another headache.

At GECA, we recognise the Infrastructure Sustainability Council’s (ISC) leadership in embedding holistic sustainability thinking across the infrastructure lifecycle. GECA and ISC share the same values of delivering infrastructure with social, cultural, environmental and economic benefits, and our respective schemes work together to support these outcomes. However, it can be hard for project teams to quickly tell exactly how specific GECA certified products and services can meet IS Rating requirements.

That’s precisely why we’ve developed a new resource, initially focused on concrete and cement, to help project teams clearly and confidently use GECA certified products to support multiple IS Design and As Built (D&AB) credits.

Cement is deeply entrenched in the way we build. Our Cement, Concrete & Concrete Products (CCCP) standard offers verified, rigorous frameworks that simplify decision-making for specifiers and procurement teams, and helps projects maximise the credit for making the right choices.

    More Than a Single Credit

In the infrastructure space, GECA is often recognised for contributing to the Rso-7 credit in the IS Rating Tool, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Our newly released resource highlights how GECA certified cement and concrete products can support a range of IS v2.1 Design and As Built (D&AB) credits, including:

Spr-1, Spr-2 and Spr-3 – by supporting risk identification, streamlined procurement, and ongoing due diligence

Rso-1 to Rso-6 – through addressing emissions, circular economy opportunities, and end-of-life considerations

Lea-1 – via alignment with relevant UN Sustainable Development Goals

This means that if you’re already specifying GECA certified products, you’re not only making a better environmental choice—you’re also potentially boosting your project’s performance across multiple credits.

Not Just Low Carbon—Holistic by Design

GECA’s approach is holistic. We don’t just focus on carbon; our certification criteria also cover social impacts, human health, and broader environmental risks. Our standards go beyond narrow metrics, from hazardous substance restrictions and labour rights to recycled content and water use.

That means when you use GECA certified cement and concrete products, you’re choosing options that consider the whole lifecycle, not just one isolated issue. It’s a better way to build, and a better story to tell.

Helping You Get the Credit You Deserve

We know how hard our licensees work to improve their products. The innovation, investment and dedication it takes to meet our certification is no small feat. So, when those products get used on infrastructure projects, we want to ensure the full value of that work is captured and rewarded.

That’s why we’ve created this practical new resource—to make it easier for project teams to understand exactly how GECA certified products can contribute to IS ratings. It’s not about reinventing the wheel. It’s about using existing tools, smartly and strategically, to get better results with less effort.

Because good decisions should count for more.
