A Partnership Built on Leadership
Since its launch in 2003, Green Star has set the benchmark as Australia’s only national and voluntary rating system for buildings and communities. From the outset, GECA’s ecolabel standards have been a critical driver of sustainability in the built environment, offering the industry robust, transparent and science-based criteria to identify environmentally and socially preferable products.
As of the end of 2024, Green Star recognition is now relevant for 90% of GECA’s licensees, reinforcing the value of GECA certification for manufacturers, specifiers, and the broader building sector.
What Is the Responsible Product Framework?
The Green Star Responsible Product Framework V1.1 rewards projects that use materials with lower environmental and social impacts. Central to this framework is the concept of a Responsible Product Value (RPV)—a ‘score’ assigned to products or materials assessed by recognised initiatives, including GECA’s ecolabelling scheme.
This framework enables building professionals to select products and materials confidently, knowing they meet stringent sustainability criteria. GECA certified products not only qualify as Responsible Products but also serve as a clear signal of sustainability leadership.
