SLURRYTUB is a patented and Australian owned and made portable filtering system that was invented by a builder after witnessing repeated environmental damage to our gardens, roads and our stormwater system.

The Problem

Typically, at the end of every day on building sites, bricklayers and most other wet trade contractors wash out their cement mixers and tools into their wheelbarrow. The wheelbarrow is then scrubbed and the resulting 20 – 40L of slurry is usually deposited nearby and the barrow hosed out ready for the next day.  This slurry often flows into groundwater or onto the street and subsequently down a stormwater drain. It all too often leaves an unsightly mess in gardens or lawns or on our pavements, roads and gutters, and can result in large financial penalties for the site manager, usually the builder.

There are a number of ‘best practice’ guidelines which are usually published and policed by councils to help the construction industry protect the environment by providing guidance on the approved cleanup methods.  The Southern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils currently provides a fact sheet on Protected Washout Areas which uses the following diagram to illustrate an approved method, using haybales as a filtering system.

Our experience with these guidelines over many years in the construction industry is that they are impractical and often not observed, particularly on smaller sites.  We have witnessed many improvised washout areas but we have also seen many sites where the guidelines have simply been ignored.  SLURRYTUB’s objective is to make this process so much easier to comply with.

ENVIROFLUID

Being an environmentally aware business, we needed a way to ensure, adhere and implement sustainably preferable strategies into our business plan. The team at GECA is co-operative and their guidance ensured that we not only complied with green standards, but exceeded them. The process is credible and well-received in the market place and ensures that we are set apart from the not-so-genuine ‘greenwashing’ companies.
