Case Study

Ecofy

Ecofy

Ecofy is an Australian-owned and operated company providing sustainable cleaning solutions that are safer for people and better for the environment. They are the exclusive import partner of Tersano and Greenspeed in Australia and New Zealand.

Ecofy has products certified under GECA’s International Ecolabelled Products and Cleaning Products standards. We spoke to Nora Potter, founder of Ecofy, about the sustainability challenges and opportunities within the cleaning industry and why they chose to become GECA certified.

What are some of Ecofy’s key sustainability priorities?

At Ecofy, sustainability is at the core of everything we do. We are dedicated to promoting healthier and more sustainable environments through our chemical-free cleaning technologies. Our key priorities include reducing and eliminating plastic waste to address the growing challenges of pollution and resource depletion. By prioritising innovative and sustainable materials, we aim to create solutions that minimise environmental impact while maintaining high performance.

We believe that cleanliness shouldn’t compromise well-being, so our offerings are free from harmful fragrances and chemical additives known to cause irritations and harm. We also ensure the well-being of building occupants by using cleaning solutions that contribute to healthier indoor environments. Additionally, we focus on protecting cleaning contractors by offering safe products and reducing exposure to potentially hazardous substances.

Leveraging the latest tersano technology, Ecofy provides clients with live reporting through the iClean dashboard to showcase their sustainability outcomes. This transparency highlights the positive impact of cleaning with tersano SAO solution, benefiting both people and the planet.

The phone screen displays a sustainability tracking interface by Tersano, with metrics such as total usage (72,940.9 litres) and average usage (692.3 litres). Features highlighted around the phone include "Track Sustainability," "Monitor Usage," "Access Support," "Manage Inventory," "View Status," and "Optimize Workflow." The background features flowing blue lines, adding a modern design element.

A standout example of our commitment to sustainability is the Greenspeed microfibre range, which has been rigorously tested for microplastic emissions. These microfibres are long-lasting, with a minimum of 600 washes, and contain no harmful dyes.

Ecofy’s approach combines environmental stewardship with a people-centred focus, ensuring that our products contribute to a healthier planet, safer communities, and a chemical-free environment for people, animals, and ecosystems.

Why did you choose GECA certification? And how vital is independent certification to you and your customers?

At Ecofy, we believe in meeting and exceeding the expectations of our clients, many of whom were actively seeking assurance that our products align with robust sustainability and health standards.

The Ecofy logo is visible on the booth's backdrop, with additional cleaning products displayed in the background.

Independent certification is essential to our business and our customers. It reinforces our market leadership and highlights our dedication to transparency and continuous improvement.

What do you think are the biggest sustainability challenges and opportunities for your industry right now?

One of the biggest challenges in the cleaning industry is addressing greenwashing, where sustainability claims can sometimes lack substance. It’s also frustrating to see companies with a sustainable product line that fail to adopt sustainable practices across their daily operations. While it’s encouraging to see steps being taken toward sustainability, there is still a pressing need for a more holistic approach that ensures every aspect of operations aligns with genuine best practices rather than simply ticking boxes. Transparency and accountability are essential for fostering trust and driving meaningful change across the industry.

The cleaning industry also faces significant environmental challenges, including its dependence on fossil fuels and the resource-intensive nature of manufacturing cleaning products. These processes contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and climate change while releasing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other pollutants that negatively impact human health and the environment.

However, these challenges also present valuable opportunities. By embracing innovative, low-impact materials and processes, the industry can reduce its reliance on fossil fuels, improve air quality, and promote healthier indoor environments. Ecofy is proud to lead by example, demonstrating how the cleaning industry can move beyond incremental improvements toward practices that genuinely align with sustainability principles.
